A Place of Passage and Remembrance

As MPG marks 200 years, York will recognize this milestone as a place for reflection, expression and shared remembrance. Installations invite visitors to pause and consider the stories that shape our collective experience of care and continuity.

Central to York’s contribution is Space for Grief’s Memory Garden, where visitors and staff are invited to write messages to someone they’ve lost. Displayed on bird‑shaped cards, these contributions form a growing landscape of remembrance reflecting many languages and voices.

Beginning in mid‑July, interpretive signage provides storytelling and narrative prompts, while indoor plinths with multi‑sided signage offer additional wayfinding and historical context.

Together, these elements form York Cemetery’s role within MPG’s network‑wide 200^th anniversary, highlighting how remembrance and shared expression continue to connect people across generations.
