The Meadowvale Arboretum is a defining feature of Meadowvale Cemetery, transforming former farmland into a landscape of ecological diversity and quiet beauty. During the cemetery’s development, Jack Radecki, a highly respected arborist with Mount Pleasant Group (then Toronto Trust Cemeteries), guided the creation of this space. His expertise ensured that the arboretum would be more than decorative – it would constitute a living system.
Jack’s plan introduced a thoughtful mix of native and ornamental species, chosen to provide seasonal interest and support local wildlife. Spring blossoms, summer shade, autumn colour and winter silhouettes give the arboretum year-round vibrancy, while its biodiversity strengthens soil health and creates habitats for birds and pollinators.
Today, the arboretum spans a significant portion of Meadowvale’s 127 acres, offering shaded paths and natural vistas for visitors seeking comfort and reflection. It stands as a practical and enduring example of how cemetery landscapes can honour life by sustaining nature. Every tree planted reflects MPG’s vision: that memorial spaces should nurture both remembrance and the environment.
