Meadowvale Cemetery
Section 1

The Korean War Memorial Wall at Meadowvale Cemetery stands as a powerful tribute to the 516 Canadians who lost their lives during the Korean War (1950–1953). Their names are engraved bronze plaques and attached to a granite wall – a permanent reminder of their sacrifice and a reflection of Canada’s official Korean War Book of Remembrance. This national monument was made possible through three years of fundraising by the Korea Veterans Association of Canada, a testament to the deep respect, gratitude and commitment felt towards those who served.

The wall is more than stone and names. It is a place of reflection and remembrance. Every year on July 27, Meadowvale Cemetery hosts a solemn ceremony at the site, bringing together veterans, families and dignitaries from across the country. These gatherings ensure that the courage and sacrifice of these young men, some only 19 years old, are never forgotten. While some were laid to rest in Canada, many remain buried in Korea, far from home.

Today, the memorial has entered a new chapter thanks to Memory Anchor. Through their mobile app, visitors can scan any name on the wall and instantly access stories and photos of the fallen soldiers, free of charge, forever. An interactive kiosk in Meadowvale’s reception area also allows guests to search for names and locate them on the wall. This innovation brings history to life, creating personal connections to those who fought for freedom and democracy.

As Memory Anchor co-founder Matthew Cudmore explains, “Behind every engraved name is a story that deserves to be honoured and preserved for future generations.”

With the launch of all 516 names, this project ensures that these soldiers’ sacrifices are never forgotten. Meadowvale Cemetery and Mount Pleasant Group are proud to support this initiative alongside Veterans Affairs Canada, continuing the mission to remember, educate and inspire.
