Elgin Mills Cemetery
Scattered across the grounds of Mount Pleasant Group of Cemeteries is something quietly remarkable: a collection of sundials that turns sunlight into a storyteller. Among humanity’s oldest timekeepers, these instruments feel perfectly at home in spaces devoted to memory and reflection.
Considered among the largest sundial collection in Canada, these pieces are thoughtfully placed throughout multiple sites. Each sundial does more than cast a shadow; it invites visitors to pause, watch the day unfold and reflect on life’s rhythms.
At Elgin Mills, sculptor Sigi Puchta created a unique design that transforms a functional object into art. The dial’s clean lines greet the natural light, forming a serene focal point to create a kind of dialogue between sun and stone.
The sundial has a special place in Mount Pleasant Group’s history. It was once the corporate logo when MPG was known as Toronto Trust Cemeteries.
